Guide · More volume
Hair thickening for fine hair in Fürstenzell near Passau
Is your hair naturally fine, has it become thinner over the years, or does it look sparse in places? Hair thickening gives it more volume without making it longer. I add individual strands of real hair in your own length. Here I explain how it works, who it suits and when I advise against it.

In short
What is hair thickening?
For hair thickening, I add fine strands of real hair that are exactly as long as your own hair. Your hair becomes thicker and fuller but keeps its length. With hair extensions, by contrast, the strands are longer than your own hair. The two can also be combined.
I work exclusively with Great Lengths bondings. These are small keratin bonds that I attach to your own hair strand by strand. That way I add volume exactly where your hair needs it, rather than the same amount everywhere. You can read more about the technique and aftercare in my guide to extensions.
Who it’s for
When hair thickening makes sense
Most people come to me with one of these wishes.
Fine hair
Your hair is healthy but naturally fine and quickly falls flat. A few extra strands give it body and volume.
Thin ends
Your hair is thick at the top but gets thinner towards the ends. Strands in the lower sections make it look evenly full right down to the tips.
Sparse areas
Your hair looks thinner at the temples or on top of your head. There I place individual strands precisely and plan carefully so that your own hair covers the bonds.
For a special day
For a wedding or a ball, many people want more volume so that their updo looks fuller. Get in touch in good time and we will plan both together. More about this in my guide to bridal hair.
To be honest
When your hair is getting thinner
If your hair is suddenly or noticeably getting thinner, please have the cause checked by a dermatologist first. Hair thickening does not treat hair loss. It makes your hair look fuller, nothing more.
It also needs enough of your own hair for the strands to hold on to. Too many or too heavy strands pull at the roots, so when in doubt I would rather use fewer. If your hair is too weak for it, I will tell you honestly. Often a cut that shows more volume already helps, for example a Twistcut.
Process
How hair thickening works
Photo and consultation
Feel free to send me a photo of your hair on WhatsApp beforehand. During the consultation I take a close look at your hair. Afterwards you know how many strands it can carry, which colour suits you and what it will cost.
Application
I attach every strand individually. Depending on how many you need, this takes several hours, so allow yourself plenty of time.
Check-ups
At regular intervals I check that everything is sitting well. At home you look after the strands following my instructions.
Removal
After about four to six months, which is how long bondings last according to Great Lengths, I remove the strands gently. Then you decide whether we thicken your hair again.
Good to know
Frequently asked questions about hair thickening
How much does hair thickening cost?
That depends mainly on how many strands you need and how long your hair is. You will know the exact price after the consultation, before I attach the first strand.
How many strands do I need?
That depends on how thick your hair is and how much volume you would like. A few strands are often enough for sparse areas, while more volume all over takes more. We decide this together during the consultation.
Can you see the bonds?
Bondings are very fine and sit hidden under your own hair. I plan in advance exactly where each row goes, so that nothing shows through at the parting.
Does hair thickening work with short hair?
Your hair needs some length to cover the bonds. Send me a photo and I will tell you whether it is long enough.
Does hair thickening damage my hair?
Not if your hair is strong enough and the strands are applied carefully and removed in good time. A small risk always remains. That is why I will honestly advise against it if your hair is too weak.
Can I go swimming with hair thickening?
Yes. Chlorine and salt water are hard on the strands, though, and so is strong heat right at the bonds. Rinse your hair well after swimming. Before your holiday I am happy to give you a few more tips.
